I gave a talk at the Special Lecture (Colloquium) of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science / Graduate School of Science, Tokyo Metropolitan University
– Title:Your view into Math! – Case studies and future directions
– Abstract:
Computer Graphics (CG) is a fundamental media, and with the recent dramatic development of deep learning and AI technologies, its field of application is rapidly expanding. While mathematics provides the foundation for CG technology, it may not be immediately apparent how it is used in CG production workflow.
This talk will first introduce the history of CG, then outline two or three challenges and mathematical models related to Anime and photorealistic visual expressions. As an example of visualization CG, recent results on surface model creation from point clouds will also be presented. Due to the diversity of its display subjects, CG employs a wide range of mathematics. This talk will touch upon information mathematics such as Bayesian estimation and information entropy, special functions and curvature, and elementary yet powerful mathematical methods like reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. The aim is to make this talk an opportunity for participants to discover more interesting mathematics through discussion.
